Autumn Equinox  2009

Shake rattles, beat drums,

Sound deep chanting,  play rhythmic strums.

Light up bonfires in the dark of the moon,

Humming a dirge as autumn tune.

Now as the dark takes over the year

Give thanks for the gifts of the biosphere:

wild rain falling  or summer drought

wildfires burning or water spout.

Connect from your heart to Earth and to Sky

To winds in all directions  to creatures that fly

to fish in the river,  crabs n the sand

bacteria growing in the palm of your hand.

Remember the lessons we all should know

From flying geese and calling crow,

From leaves glowing brilliant then falling slow--

Rejoice in having, then let go.

Is there meaning unfolding in the evolutionary plan,

rising in gyres as far as man,

testing limits, lost in greed,

forgetting we have all that we need?

Earth’s regeneration is what we must cherish

More than money or gold, lest all would perish.

Remember the lessons we all should know

Rejoice in having, then let go
